Music Therapy is the clinical and evidenced-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship."

American Music Therapy Association

Music therapy differs from traditional talk therapy in that it allows for indirect expression of emotion through non-verbal communication, symbol and metaphor, and can help many people at different stages of life and with different challenges from social skills, anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress to clients with aquired brain injury and stroke survivors regaining language skills. Whilst engagement in music is well known for its positive therapeutic effects, music therapy is conducted by credentialed healthcare professionals, using specific techniques to address personalized aims with the client.

As a experienced songwriter and vocalist, I find the use of voice a particularly powerful instrument in my work, informed by the vocal psychotherapy techniques of Diane Austin, and the research regarding the use of songwriting in music therapy by Felicity Baker. In addition to the psychodynamic underpinnings of my therapy practice, my training and interest in Neurological Music Therapy (NMT) is integrated in to my practice.

Whatever your reason for seeking additional help, I will work with you to identify and address your specific needs.

If you are interested in an assessment session, please contact me to discuss further and we will arrange a convenient time to chat.
